Ventura is not saving printing presets (fully)

Please try these steps:

• First, delete all printer software and Apps.
• Then, Reset the printing system on your Mac to solve a problem - Apple Support.
• Finally, Add a printer to your printer list so you can use it on Mac - Apple Support.

Check out the official Apple list of supported AirPrint devices: About AirPrint - Apple Support

Your Brother MFC-8880DN printers is not on the list of supported AirPrint devices.

Also, checking the official Brother driver support site, it shows the MFC-8880DN printer as being supported only up to macOS 10.15.x, not supported by Brother to run on Ventura.

Good news! This bug is fixed in the upcoming macOS Ventura 13.5 Update.

Did it work as intended with Monterey?

Have you installed and run any "cleaning", "optimizing", "speed-up", anti-virus or VPN apps on your Mac? If so uninstall of them according to the developer's instructions and test the printer again.

Additionally, give this a try: boot into Safe Mode according to How to use safe mode on your Mac and test to see if the problem persists. Reboot normally and test again.

NOTE 1: Safe Mode boot can take up to 3 - 5 minutes as it's doing the following; 

• Verifies your startup disk and attempts to repair directory issues, if needed

• Loads only required kernel extensions (prevents 3rd party kernel/extensions from loading)

• Prevents Startup Items and Login Items from opening automatically

• Disables user-installed fonts 

• Deletes font caches, kernel cache, and other system cache files

NOTE 2: if you have a wireless keyboard with rechargeable batteries connect it with its charging cable before booting into Safe Mode. This makes it act as a wired keyboard as will insure a successful boot into Safe Mode.

I have a good workaround is to save any file PDF or if its is a pdf open in Safari and there the tray setting and other settings stay because its all on one screen.

But apple must fix this at the next update. But I always have patience. I trust Apple.

ok, I just put down the phone with apple senior advisor. so we went through ALL troubleshooting that she had on her notes that must be done before submitting the case to the engineers. its all stuff that I've done in the past but didn't help. but I had to go through with it if not it wouldn't be submitted. so what I think that everyone should do this. (here are some steps they made me do. first they blamed it on Adobe so I should them how this problem is also in other programs and apps, also they made me do it in apple notes so they can see an apple app, I showed them same issue, also they made me reinstall Ventura not update just a clean new reinstall) so be prepared to do all this. but after all this it gets submitted to the engineers.

still not fixed fully. yes a bit better cuz setting stick for one time maybe twice but after 5 minutes idle even if the app or program is still open it goes back to defaults, "last used setting" also doesn't work at all same thing it just for a few minutes, so its like this option of "last used setting" is a joke. Presets are not working at all yet.

the stick for one time is already a tremendous step ahead because now I can trust what I'm setting, so if I'm setting to a tray I know it will print from that tray, not have to do 20 30 40 50 times till it goes to the right tray, because that was the moooooost frustrating thing. so at least this is "basically fixed" but for a second time its mostly fixed third time fourth time nooooooo!!!! Still crazy! Apple became crazy! not listening to us at all.

I've done the feedback like 150 or 200 times or more. and nothing!!! nada!!!! , k cant say nothing at least now its fixed for one time printing so I'm not crying to tears......

This is not a Vendor driver issue. This is a Ventura bug even with the built-in Airprint driver.

Presets ignore Double Sided when I set it to "On (Short Edge)". It remembers the setting if it is set to "On" (Long Edge in Monterey and previous), but any preset set to "On (Short Edge)" loads with Double Sided turned off.

I have the same issue, and it only started happening when I upgraded to Ventura. Which I wish I hadn't done, as it's a HUGE PAIN IN THE NECK. I use several large printers, each of which have multiple paper trays (5+ trays), each with different media. The presets are 100% broken in that they don't honor pretty much anything you've saved in them -- paper tray, double-sided (and whether to flip on short/long edge), various printer-specific things, such as the type of media you're trying to print to (I usually set this to Automatic, and it's now using "Printer default" as the default, which halts any jobs I send), and other settings.

This is a nightmare, I have had many jobs ruined now because of this, and I have to very meticulously check all the printer settings I might need to change that were previously set with the presets. I really wish I had not upgraded to Ventura, and normally I would wait longer before updating to the latest macOS. Lesson learned here, that's for sure. And this is not the first time in the last decade Apple has broken presets.

Here's hoping it's fixed in 13.2.

Also, the new print dialogs suck.

My resolution was to purchase an older Mac Mini with OS 11 and effectively use it to run my printers, which is shouldn't be required but is working great. Apple have shown no interest in fixing this on Ventura so I gave up waiting.

Just upgraded to 13.4, and things are looking better. I can now save my single/double sided presets, and printing with them seems OK. I haven't tried the other presets that people have been complaining about so can't comment; anybody else got any feedback on this?

I’ve been having the same issues for months! It’s been driving me insane! I’ve spent hours with Adobe trying to resolve this, thinking it was an Adobe issue and as a final bid to try and resolve it I came across this thread. I’m on 13.4.1 and the issue is still present. Luckily my old MacBook Pro wasn’t on Ventura when I created the presets so I still have some that work but anything new on my M1 Studio just isn’t saving. I really hope as mentioned above that 13.5 rectifies the issue as my design business is taking such a big hit in terms of time taken to do print jobs!

I think if you look at a setting, and hit cancel (as in "don't change anything") it actually reverts than panel to the "default" setting. So if you click a panel to confirm it, try clicking OK to close it. (This is just my guess of what is really happening. But it seems to work.)

I recommend checking your printer for a firmware update that may possibly help.
