swipe right to trash mail message

I used to be able to swipe right on a mail message and send it to trash. Now I just upgraded to iOS16, and I can only do it by swiping left.

I've tried all the suggestions I've read, and settings for mail, and advanced settings. I'm left handed so this is kind of a pain to switch now...plus breaking a habit!

am I missing something?
