Apple TV (tvOS16.1) no longer visible in AirPlay (from iOS 16.1 or iPadOS 16.1)

I upgraded my Apple TV 4K to tvOS 16.1 yesterday. I also upgraded to iOS 16.1 and iPadOS 16.1 on my iPhone and iPad.

I can no longer see my Apple TV 4K from my iOS/iPadOS devices when I try to use screen mirroring from control center. (the Apple TV 4K does NOT show up). The Apple TV 4K does not show up when I try to airplay a video either from my iPad or my iPhone either.

This is where it gets interesting:

  • I have an old Apple TV (3rd Gen) in my basement. That device shows up on both devices. (hasn't been updated to new version of tvOS)
  • I have a MacBook Pro M1 (NOT updated to Ventura). That device CAN see and AirPlay to my Apple TV 4K.... and my iOS/iPadOS 16.1 devices can see my laptop!
  • I have rebooted the Apple TV 4K (why not, right?). No luck.
  • My iOS 16.1 devices (iPhone and iPad) have no problem connecting to the Apple TV 4K as a remote.

So...as far as I can tell: iOS 16.1 and iPadOS 16.1 does not seem to be able to AirPlay to (or recognize) tvOS 16.1 devices.

Anyone else see this same issue?

I had a similar problem screen mirroring to a 4K Apple TV after updating to 16.1 on all my Apple devices. The TV screen would immediately just go totally black. Curiously an Apple advisor and I found that turning off Bluetooth fixed the problem. After capturing logs on both the Apple TV and the iPad Pro 10.5 it was found I had a forgotten I had a hotspot/vpn shield App that I put on the iPad years ago but never used. I just deleted that App and now mirroring works again even with Bluetooth turned on. Apparently mirroring is sensitive and of course uses Wi-Fi and a router so anything involved with that can potentially be a problem.

After iPadOS 16.1.1 was installed, the iPad Pro 10.5 screen sharing with the Apple TV 4K is again NOT working. As before, however, if I turn Bluetooth off is works fine. Resetting the networks settings as describe above did not fix the problem. I am not sure if 16.1.1 actually caused it to stop working but wanted to just update this problem

I am also having trouble with screen mirroring from my iPhone 13 Pro with iOS 16.1 to my Apple TV 4K (Gen 2) with 16.1. Worked prior to the update.

Also, the option to see devices in your home (via command center) is no longer unavailable. Previously, you could see all of your devices and turn them on/off, and even see camera feeds. It worked fine with 16.0, but is seemingly gone in 16.1.

Since airplay and home were both in command center, might these problems be related?
