How to Move the iTunes media folder from drive c:\ to drive d:\ on a Windows 10 machine.

Hallo, I would like to change the location of the iTunes media folder from its default location – c:\music\iTunes\iTunes media – to a new location on drive d:\. It turns out that this is not as simple as it looks. I have been unable to find a consensus set of instructions on how to implement this change. The way I see it:

1.      The default path (on the c:\ drive) needs to be modified. What is the revised path of drive c:\?

2.      A new location needs to be created on drive d:\. What is the path of the new location?

3.      Are there any other changes that need to be made to lockdown this issue and avoid any potential disaster?

I look forward to having your thoughts and guidance on how to resolve this “simple” conundrum.

Thank you,

Windows, Windows 10

In the past you might have chosen a new media folder and consolidated your library to it, however there is a bug in recent builds of iTunes that, at least for some users, seems to stop the media folder preference from being saved properly. See Make a split library portable - Apple Community and put your library in a shape that isn't affected by the issue, and is easier to backup and move around in future. If your library is in the usual layout it should be as simple as moving your iTunes folder from C: to D:\iTunes and then holding down the shift key as you launch iTunes to choose the library at D:\iTunes\iTunes Library.itl.
