Locked out of iPad reset encrypted data

Locked out of iPad reset encrypted data by using incorrect password a couple of times, or passcode, not sure which.

was not reassuring so....... I re-booted the iPad and it was restored.

"Account recovered successfully" sent from Google!!! from gmail....

I could see all the data on icloud on my PC but nowhere was there a link to reset the iPad..

Is there a better way to do this? Add a note on the warning on the iPad, just reboot!!

Seems to me if the update caused my passcode to change there should be more support from apple to rectify the issue. Any suggestions or third party apps available to recover data would be much appreciated.
