How did you solve the issue of not being able to connect a new iWatch 8 to your phone

Trying to pair brand new iWatch 8 with iPhone 8. It says it pairs and then immediately unpairs. Have tried to troubleshoot with no luck.

Is your iPhone updated to iOS 16.1? If not, it must be updated.
