Voicemail speaker stopped working

Voicemail speaker suddenly stopped working. All other sounds on iPhone XR are fine. Tried all the usual fixes: restart, volume, mute button, headphone mode, slider in settings back &forth a few times, etc

Try a Force Restart, Force restart iPhone - Apple Support

If that does not work, given the list of things you have already tried, then use the Get Support link at the top of the page to contact Apple Support. If you have an Apple Store close by, make a Genius Bar appointment to have Apple look at the device and they will explain your options. Genius Bar Reservation and Apple Support Options - Apple

Interesting I thought the reboot would do it…

just for kickers, any idea on why this would suddenly happen?

I do appreciate your quick response and spouse is definitely happy!

Hard to say, but I generally tell people that a smartphone is just like a computer and needs to be restarted every once in a while. Glad everything is working the way it is supposed to.
