iCloud 50GB threshold

I just received a message from Apple stating that I was approaching 50GB of storage use and that it would cost extra to go over. As I’m not able to delete anything at the moment, I paid the extra to avoid losing anything. I wonder if I delete enough stuff in iCloud and get it below the 50GB threshold, will I automatically revert to the lower rate again?

Status of Storage downgrade How do I confirm the status of a request to downgrade my iCloud storage? I have completed the downgrade sequence (from 2.2TB to 200GB) but the status of my storage still shows that it will renew the (original) 2TB upgrade at the due monthly date. I am unable to repeat the downgrade request again because the 'Done' button is never active. Either the downgrade is in the pipeline or I am going to be charged again. For reference, I had previously reduced my actual file storage (by deletion of data) to 62GB before any amendments to capacity, well within the requested 200GB cap.

Downgrading iCloud storage to the Free 5GB I've downloaded my son's iCloud storage account to "Free" as the Apple Help article describes. Under "Change Plan" is now has a tick against the "Free" but even after restarting the phone, the storage plan shows as 50GB. Is this an Apple bug, or will it eventually update in settings?
