Cmd-Click not working in TextEdit

As of a couple of hours ago, I am no longer able to select non-contiguous text in TextEdit. I am able to select non-contiguous text in other apps, browsers, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel. I have quit all running apps and done a full shutdown and restart. That did not fix the issue. I'm sure it's probably something simple and obvious. Anybody have any ideas? BTW - just updated to Ventura 13.0 (22A380) a few days ago.

Give this a try: boot into Safe Mode according to How to use safe mode on your Mac and test to see if the problem persists. Reboot normally and test again.

NOTE 1: Safe Mode boot can take up to 3 - 5 minutes as it's doing the following;

• Verifies your startup disk and attempts to repair directory issues, if needed

• Loads only required kernel extensions (prevents 3rd party kernel/extensions from loading)

• Prevents Startup Items and Login Items from opening automatically

• Disables user-installed fonts

• Deletes font caches, kernel cache, and other system cache files

NOTE 2: if you have a wireless keyboard with rechargeable batteries connect it with its charging cable before booting into Safe Mode. This makes it act as a wired keyboard as will insure a successful boot into Safe Mode.

Exactly the same issue for me as of yesterday. Did you manage to find a solution to this? Has functionality been restored because it seems to have been removed, at least from my devices (MacBook pro and MacBook Air - 2017 Intel and 2020 M1 respectively, both running Ventura 13.1). I used to use it daily and know it used to exist with TextEdit - https://youtu.be/skr8Qah0OYY?t=289

I don't want to pay for a Microsoft Word subscription to do this, nor do I want to keep opening up Script Editor to get things done, copying and pasting text between apps. I've spoken to many different people at Apple last couple of days, screen sharing with senior support staff and sending feature requests, basically making as much noise as possible. Not sure if they're really listening mind

Yes, and it does exactly what TextEdit used to do for me. Almost perfect... just wish I could open more than one window - multiple tabs possible but distinct windows seemingly not a feature. Auto-save also not a feature. But the app opens up in nanoseconds and cmd-click selection feature works like a dream. Also opt-click for selecting columns of words... back in business!

Interested to know what you do to compensate for this lack of functionality now. I have noticed that the function still exists within Script Editor on the Mac - using the description box at the bottom of the window, add a chunk of text and you will see that it behaves just as TextEdit used to with non-contiguous elections being remembered (it even copies columns of complete words when holding down the option key as opposed to single characters). Command-T brings up the fonts menu so you can pretty much use Script Editor to do everything you could once do on TextEdit. Glad I found it because I was able to screen share with support at Apple to show them that the function did and does still exist within the architecture. I want it across all apps myself - Pages, Keynote and TextEdit - not hidden away in Script Editor. There must be some reason it doesn't exist within the major apps though... a bit of a head scratcher. Not good practice to make applications worse over time!
