AT&T 5G support for iPhone 14 and new iPad Pro

I have a new iPhone 14 with upgraded E-sim and iPad Pro with cellular service both get cell service from AT&T. My little town does not have 5G service. My iPhone 14 cellular indicator shows 5Ge, which is AT&Ts icon for 4G. However the iPad Pro cellular service icon shows 5G.

First question why does the iPad Pro show 5G service when there is none?

When I travel to Seattle, in a location next to what I know is a AT&T 5G coverage area, my iPhone cellular icon will not switch from 5Ge to 5G or 5Gw, 5G+ anything. power cycled the phone turn the options off an on.

default cellular options are cellular data switch on, cellular data options Roaming on, voice and data 5G auto, also tried 5G on.

So the question is how do you know if you are actually using 5G? I called apple support - they said call AT&T. I called AT&T and they said call Apple. or course.

So the question is how do you know if you are actually using 5G?
