Not helpful at all. As the question says, we *want* the backup and sync to happen. Battery is obviously of no concern, since it only starts when the device is charging. The backup is not the problem; it’s having to enter the passcode every time.

It would be nice if Lawrence Finch showed a screenshot of the answer from the “resource” saying that this is intentional. My guess is that he made that up, or the source doesn’t actually work at Apple. Having worked on security at one of the few companies in the world as big as Apple, I can’t imagine any sane security engineer making this prompt intentional. It’s clearly a bug that only affects some narrow (but broad enough for hundreds of “me too”s) edge case.

The auto sync together with show when on wi-fi is also a big battery user - the phone will sync quite a few times in the day.

I would turn them both off.

I did not say do not sync or turn it off, I said turn off AUTOMATIC sync, You can click the Sync button whenever you actually want to sync.

Tried that ... doesn't work. My phone continues to ask me to enter my passcode every time i connect it to my computer.

If I were you I would start my own discussion as your setup may be very different and you will have more chance if an answer. Also you are not able to mark answers helpful or solved.

How can it be a security feature if it doesn't apply to Apple's own servers? Otherwise your iPhone would ask you to enter your passcode every night to back up to iCloud.
