Why won't imac connect to the internet?

I have an Intel iMac running Monterey 12.6. It's connected direct to my router via ethernet and also via wifi. This is confirmed by its Network Settings panel. I have a MacBook Pro (M1) running the same version of MacOS. They are on the same desk. The MacBook connects via Wifi (I'm writing this description using it) and Ethernet via a Powerline device and adapter, but the iMac won't connect either via Ethernet or wifi. Restarting doesn't do anything. What can I do to restore normal activity?

To answer my own question: I contacted Apple Support and they suggested I disconnect the Ethernet cable. That did it! Immediately the iMac connected via wifi. I then plugged Ethernet back in, and the system continued to work. The support agent couldn't give a rational explanation, but I assume it must have been an internal conflict of some kind. Myself, I had only tried turning off the wifi rather then Ethernet. Anyway it seems stable again.
