I have a late 2013 iMac and trying to connect new HP monitor as a second display. Using HDMI to Display Port connection. The new monitor is 2560 x 1440, but the highest option it gives me is 1080p. What am I doing wrong? Thanks

The Mini DisplayPort to HDMI adapter and HDMI cable are limiting the setup to 1080p.
What model is the HP and what other inputs does it have?
Tip: if the HP has DisplayPort input? Then a Mini DisplayPort to DisplayPort cable should give you the full 2560x1440 resolution.

You’re welcome. The only other option is to test a Mini DisplayPort to VGA adapter, which should give you more resolution choices.
