how to create 3rd party app password for AOL mail

it seems the mechanism for generating 3rd party app passwords for AOL mail hasn't worked for a few months.

Has anyone found another way to do that?

I use an older iPad with Mail to access AOL mail. Last year I had to create a 3rd party app password to make it work, but the ability to create those doesn't work anymore on the AOL website.

In common with many other Mail providers, AOL now use App Specific Passwords to access IMAP or POP3 mailboxes.

The Mail App on each of your devices, such as your iPad, requires a unique password to be generated from within the AOL account. This App Specific password intentionally differs from your AOL account password - and can only be used to access your AOL mail.

Thanks for the reply, that is exactly what I was trying to do, create that app specific password, however the AOL website delivers an error message that says that function is not currently available. From what I have read in various forums, this situation has existed for a few months.

I was wondering if anyone has a work around, or another method that works other than the AOL website.
