Red dot on the phone icon
Since updating my iPhone 11 to ios16.1 I have a large red dot on the phone icon. I have no messages pending, no missed calls etc. Anyone know why or how I can get rid of it?

I just found out how to fix this from another site and it worked!
1) Go to Notifications --> Phone and turn OFF the Badge icon.
2) Verify that your voicemail is working by sending yourself a message from another phone and then deleting it. ( I skipped
this step and the process still worked)
3) Go back to Notifications--> Phone and turn the Badge icon back on.
4) Restart your phone, and the red circle should now be gone from your Phone icon.
Good luck!
Me too.
Same thing on our iPhone SE running 16.1.2
... and we chose NOT to have a voice mail, so there cannot be a voice message waiting.
And we cannot go and check if we have a voice mail message in the different procedures proposed because we dont have a voice mail.
I have same problem

Very helpful and useful
Thank you so much it did work 👍
My message was in Chinese so didn’t listen unnerving
So annoying and unnecessary.
But there’s a message on there that I want to keep. I have to look at that red dot indefinitely?
Me too. Tried everything thats been suggested and its still there!

Why is there a red? Dot on my telephone icon?
Me too. And all my phone call history had been deleted. Any ideas?
Restarting didn’t help and voicemail says I don’t have any messages!
bug fix please apple!
Me too. Why is there no response to this question?
very helpful! thanks!
I skipped the restart step and this worked for me too. Seems a bit like treating the symptom rather than the problem though?!
