SMB File Sharing not working in Ventura

Ignore my previous comment, after a couple hours I can confirm that the issue is not resolved. SMB reverted back to it's old ways, receiving error "There was a problem connecting to the server "iMac".

Absolutely fed up with Apple..

Can you confirm that the 13.3's build is the 22E5236f that Apple support mentioned should have the fix? If it isn't, perhaps the fix is due to come in a 13.3.1 update or something. If it is that build though, that's disappointing (and misleading on Apple support's part), and I suppose people will need to submit new tickets.

Good to know, thank you. Looks like 13.3 wasn't the update they were referring to then, I'd presume, and we're all going to have to wait a little longer ... possibly for the next incremental ".1" update.

13.3.1 is out today, and instead of focusing on resolving SMB file sharing, it appears Apple had much, much bigger priorities to focus on.

In this update, the pushing hands emoji now shows skin tone variations again. Thank god this is fixed, what would I ever do without my brown skin tone pushing hands emoji. All is well in the world. I can sleep again at night. Thanks Apple!

It looks like 13.3.1 is build 22E261, so still not yet approaching build 22E5236 (which almost seems like it might be a typo, as the builds so far typically only have 3 numbers after the letter). Hopefully Apple Support knew what they were talking about. Guess I'll wait around for 13.4.

Okay, though looking at the build numbers for Ventura thus far, they have been. First by letter, then number:

13.0 - 22A380

13.0.1 - 22A400

13.1 - 22C65

13.2 - 22D49

13.2.1 - 22D68

13.3 - 22E252

13.3.1 - 22E261

Granted, however, the beta for 13.4 has moved on to the letter F (22F5027f), so I'm realizing that it's likely the build that Apple Support was referencing as having the fix (22E5236f) was a beta build for 13.3 or 13.3.1, meaning the fix has indeed already been implemented. Which is both good and bad, since it seems to have fixed the issue for some, but not others. I suppose I'll just have to bite the bullet, update, and hope it doesn't screw up my SMB share to my Apple TV.

For those who are stating the fix is not working, perhaps sharing your setup would help.

Mine is Mac Studio, with a folder on an external TB4 RAID being shared with several other Macs on my network and the issue has not shown up since the update.

I’ve just erased the Mac Studio boot disk and reinstalled Ventura. A complete clean slate.

No difference in my use case. Synology works fine. AppleTV Infuse share does not. Setup Infuse share and everything works. Shutdown the Mac and the Infuse share no longer works. Zero change in behaviour. I’ll restore all data from Time Machine now and just go back to using Plex.

no, these are folders, not files.

But yes, they are created while saving a file which is located on a SMB share; they are created next to that file. Since I "updated" to 13.3.1, they disappear immediately.

Does anyone have the same issue as me where the host won't wake up for network SMB access? I have the "Wake up for network access" toggled to on in my settings on the host, but I keep having to go wake up the host computer every time I want to use the SMB server.

Ok, sorry again but I am not very savvy... where do I share the folder from? In the past I could select "MicheleMyCloud" which would show up w Public and TimeMachine. I don't think I changed any settings, so I am not sure where to go to share that file? I can see all my files/folders on the web but that's it. Sorry I'm a pain!!! And yes, I logged in w/ the username and password that I used for My Cloud.

Well, I'm on iOS 16.6.1 and Ventura 13.5.2 and rebooting didn't work for me - as well as disabling File Sharing, SMB option/restarting/re-enabling, disabling firewall. Nothing for it. I simply can not connect using the smb:// address as I have for the last 10 years. Gettin an interesting message.. but it's totally erroneous.

I did try a reinstall too before with no avail. Only the reformat worked. No idea why. Probably with a reinstall not everything is rewrote.

Everything worked fine with the Time Machine backup except Reminders which is now broken. But Reminders work if I create a new admin account signed in with the same iCloud id, so it's weird. I'm gonna do some deletion of various plist and reminders app in Library

Anyway, my iMac just pop up in the Network pane in Finder, I click on it, then "sign in as an existing user", and it works. Before I had an error every time I tried to sign in on it from another computer. Same if I did a direct IP connection

Did you do an internet restore? Meaning, you already started from the latest version of Ventura right? Your problem must be something else then. Stuff here continue to work after several reboots thankfully. You can try opening a feedback request to apple with Sonoma, they'll make you upload some logs. They will be more active trying to solve it in Sonoma probably. I did help with the original problem with my logs back in the day, even if after all in my case the fix needed a reformat
