My watch battery dies after a few hours. Is there a way to check how good the battery is?

Apple doesn't actually replace the battery in Apple Watch. Instead, they'll offer you a refurbished (but like new) replacement watch for the price of a battery replacement.

Dippity doo da, it's showing 84%. I bet you nailed it. Thank you. What's the best way to get the battery replaced, it's not something I want to tackle on my own after seeing an online video. Wayyyyyy to much to go wrong!
On your Watch, open Settings > Battery > Battery Health. If it is near or below 80%, the batteries useful life has been spent.
