How to Disable Automatic Link Previews in MacOS Ventura

It appears there is a new *feature* in MacOS Ventura (v13.0) where Mail automatically changes URLs to Link Previews in rich text emails.

But I would rather NOT have it automatically change them — I prefer to have the URLs spelled out — and I cannot find a way to turn this feature off.

A colleague said he read somewhere that once you manually change it back that the application will recognize and not do it again. This did not work for me.

Anybody know how to make it stop making the Link Previews? Help...

This has been fixed in Sonoma. Go to Mail > Settings > Composing and turn off "Add link previews".

Am moving over to Microsoft Outlook tonight even though I never thought I would write those words. Have been using Macs since, well, the Apple II. The idea that Apple wants to preview every one of my links in an email, whether I want to or not, is asinine. You've lost a lifelong customer to Microsoft (I can't believe it but here we are). Apple has lost its way. Received my settlement check for the iPhone thing last week, and today I'm still using an iPhone 8 even though you've deprecated iOS for it.

I guess having a market cap of over $2 trillion isn't enough? And I guess you don't have enough resources to make the products better? As someone who has supported your bottom line year after year, and evangelized the products, I have to say I'm rather disappointed.

This fix completely removes link preview

Launch Terminal and enter the following:

sudo defaults write /Library/Preferences/FeatureFlags/Domain/Mail.plist RichLinks -dict-add Enabled -bool NO ; sudo chmod -R o+rX /Library/Preferences/FeatureFlags

Enter your user password at the prompt, then reboot.

That should do the trick and it will turn off this "feature".

Did you read Chiefs2024's post made immediately before yours?

You must be kidding! Did you ever encounter a case where someone actually READ the thread they posted to before posting? (Of course, if they did they probably wouldn’t have posted, because they would have already found the answer; so I’ve answered my own question.)
