Disable "enter passcode to start a backup" iPhone Nag 15.7.1

I updated my daughter's iPhone 7 to 15.7.1 and now every few minutes I get a password prompt that says "enter passcode to start a backup." iCloud backup is disabled! I don't want to back up to the cloud...my internet is too slow. How can I get rid of this? It is super annoying. It keeps the screen lit until I "cancel" it and I am afraid it will just drain the battery unless someone is nearby to cancel it every 5-10 minutes.

Lawrence, I did read all the comments but when "Apple found a vulnerability", I read it as "Apple found a bug"! After all, vulnerabilities are caused by a software loophole, which is, according to Wikipedia, "an ambiguity or inadequacy in a system".

I hope that Apple will fix it so we can again rely on automatic and unattended backups whenever an iPhone/iPad is connected to a trusted Apple computer.

As far as I'm concerned, this closes the discussion.

You’re wrong. The poster is correct. This is a bug that affects only certain devices. In my family, we have my daughter’s ipad, I have two ipad pros. We have three iPhone 14’s and an iPhone 6S. This is happening only to my daughter’s ipad. I called apple and they could not explain why. Their solution was just that I should input the passcode when prompted. I am now updating her ipad to 15.7.2 and I have a feeling that the issue will be resolved. You know why? Because it was likely a bug. It’s sad that a couple of you came on here and basically attacked the OP because you didn’t understand the problem, even accusing him of not reading his own thread. How is that helpful? Isn’t this supposed to be a support community? He’s got a very annoying problem. I have the same. It may be a result of Apple making some changes to fix a vulnerability, but those changes clearly caused a bug that they are likely fixing in the next update. OP, hang in there, I’m sure that the issue will go away in the next update.

You are pretty obviously wrong, as I’ve already mentioned, I have 7 devices and only 1 has that problem. All my other devices are on 16.2 and none of those have this issue. Something in some devices sets it off. That’s what a bug is. The OP also has other devices and they don’t have the issue. So obviously this is a common theme.

Updated daughter's iPhone 7 to latest iOS version (15.7.2) and it still happens, so they did NOT fix whatever is causing this. Our iPad Pro (M1), iPhone 12 mini and iPhone 12 were updated to latest version (16.2) still don't and have never nagged us with this issue, so it is definitely only affecting the iPhone 7 in our house.

We're going to have to switch her to Android because it is so disruptive and we don't want to spend $$$ on a new iPhone for a 12 year old (especially with no guarantee that it won't happen with the new phone). We thought of replacing the battery through Apple and seeing what a different device would do but it's a $50 gamble. I just hope it doesn't spread to our other devices because that would be terrible...so much money invested in iOS devices, apps and services.

I just want to be clear here...you, Lawrence Finch, are being repeatedly prompted to input your passcode up to 20-30 times per day (we've never actually tried to count them)? Because that is what is happening on my iPhone 7. The entire time the phone is in the house it repeatedly asks for the passcode every few minutes. If this is the future of iPhone functionality (I don't actually think so since our other devices are unaffected), then it's just not worth it. I'm trying to be pleasant here but unless you have this problem yourself I don't think you know how annoying and destructive it is to the basic expectation of how a smartphone is supposed to behave. It borders on ridiculous.

When I updated my iPhone 13 to iOS 16.1.2 this bizarre behavior disappeared. The incessant passcode prompts stopped. It now only requests the passcode when I ask iMazing to do the backup. This is the expected operation. Automatic iCloud backups continue to happen without a passcode prompt. It is a relief to finally have the phone work as expected.

You are lucky to have a more recent iPhone 13 with continued support and updates. My iPhone 7 is stuck to 15.7.2 :-(

By the way, since a few iOS updates ago, I experience a similar problem with iBooks: every time I open the app, I have to enter my AppleId and password twice. If for security reasons, asking once would be ok, but twice looks as a bug to me!
