hi I have been reading many posts over the pas three weeks and getting into technical steps like making sudo commands in the terminal app, re indexing blah blah creating an additional user etc but reading the below tip of just click and HOLD the Spotlight icon for a few seconds and it pops back to the centre. how weirdly simple and it worked for me. thank you. it was driving me nuts
Toad - That's one of the first things I tried. Trying to add anything to the Privacy panel results in an error message:
From your previous post I had realized that the Spotlight window almost completely offscreen.
This click and hold trick is a nice solution that I was not aware of. Thanks for sharing!
Fixed it! Clean install of Ventura seems to have resolved it.
An addendum is that search for topics or settings in system settings also does not work. Again type in touch or displays and nothing happens.
Thanks. Can you elaborate on CleanMyMac? Used for years and never had a noticeable problem.
Also, any ideas about the search problem?
Error
Thanks but that did not change anything
Perfect. So make sure to submit the feedback there. :)
For me creating a new user helped but in the end updating to a very new version solved the problem completely for me. So I'm sure a future update will solve this for you as well.
At least, this (a problem-solving update) is what I now have to hope for. The new-user-scenario is nevertheless a good backup solution. Thanks for that.
Unfortunately, a clean install did NOT work for me. Even installed on a clean external drive. No joy.
Try resetting Spotlight from the Terminal: paste the following line:
sudo mdutil-E /
and type your password when requested, then press enter.
Been there. Tried that. I can see (via Activity Monitor) that the system STARTS to build the Spotlight Index, but then the process stops after a second or so. But thanks for the suggestion.
@allwissendemüllhalde, that solved my problem! Many thanks! But how, why?
Could not kill corespotlightd, so deleting the CoreSpotlight folder saved the day, I guess.
Same here! Spotlight started working immediately after reindexing began.
Thank you very much.
