hi I have been reading many posts over the pas three weeks and getting into technical steps like making sudo commands in the terminal app, re indexing blah blah creating an additional user etc but reading the below tip of just click and HOLD the Spotlight icon for a few seconds and it pops back to the centre. how weirdly simple and it worked for me. thank you. it was driving me nuts
FYI: Update to 13.1 (not 16.2, sorry) did NOT fix my Spotlight issues. Will try the fix one more time and keep my fingers crossed.
Problem solved!!! Now just rebuilding my mailboxes also. This spotlight problem also affected Mails indexing and smart mailboxes. Thank you
SAME!! Why is such an integral part of the MacOS failing...? In a beta...ok, but not in the actual release...common...
Same for me, this solution doesn't help. It starts the reindexing, but it fails after a minute or so...
@MarcoTCP How was it solved in your case? And was the solution permanent?
Thank you, thank you, thank you!
I had been fighting this for two months, and it turns out it was just off the screen!
Thie woeker for me.
Killing corespotlightd did not seem to work but deleting the folder worked and has for a week or so.
thanks writerguy57. the irony is I was following all of the more complex possibilities for weeks trying so 100% agree :-) Peter
Derek - Let us know what Apple Support had to say on your third call. Many of us have followed those steps... as you found out, they don't always work!
Thanks szobanov this worked for me!
Was really hoping the latest update -- MacOS 13.2.1 -- would fix the Spotlight Index issue, but no such luck. Here's hoping 13.3 (which is due fairly soon) will address this! SO ANNOYING!!!
I have the same problem with Ventura pre-installed on a new Mac Studio. In fact, this thing has so many problems that I wish I had not purchased it. My 10.5-year-old iMac works better.
Thanks for the advice! I will try this in the next day or so and will let you know if it works.
My spotlight does not work on my brand new macbook pro
@allwissendemüllhalde Thank you so much. I've been searching for a solution for two days - this is the first solution that worked.
