Phone goes to iMessage instead of calling

My wife is my emergency contact. In the phone app, she’s the only one in my favorites. When I tap on her contact, the phone app sends me the messages! This is not only stupid, but dangerous. How do I get the phone to call???

IPhone 14 Pro will not send or receive a Text if there are non-Apple devices included I have tried all the recommended changes and I am updated to IOS16.1.1 I can send a solo text to an Android device and receive text from a solo Android device. However, if trying to send a group text (which includes Android) it will “not deliver”. If a group tries to send me a text with Android devices included I will not receive the text. The text can even originate from an iPhone 13 and if Androids are included it will not come through. I have turned iMessage on and off. I have confirmed the phone number being used. I have done a hard power down/up on the phone. I have reset all Network connections iMessage is turned on Send as SMS is turned on MMS messaging is turned on Group messaging is turned on Filter unknown senders is turned off Send read receipts is turned off Clearly Apple has a problem that needs to be admitted with a forecasted date for a software fix. Texting myself when I text myself it’s green. My previous iPhone 12 pro when I text myself was blue. I got used to seeing that. I looked at my message settings and iMessage is on. Send and receive is on and linked to my phone number, my send as sms is turned on. iMessages works when sending iMessage to friends and family bt just when I text myself it’s a sms And is green How do I fix this. Shouldn’t it be blue?

Welcome to Apple Support Communities. Unless you have engaged Emergency SOS on your iPhone, the device will only call your emergency contact after calling emergency services for you. If you open your wife's contact card, typically it opens to the Messages app by default. You also have the option to choose if you want to call or message from the contact card.
