open recently deleted photos on imac

Ok using Ventura on iMac, go to photos. Click on recently deleted. screen says enter password. where? what password? I share album with my wife, so I have shared, personal, or both. they are uploaded to iCloud. I go to iCloud, they are there, but shouldn't you be able to undelete from photos especially if the are in personal photos? why would it say enter password and no place to enter password? also, can you turn the lock off?

It is a new feature in Ventura to protect your photos. If you are showing your photos to someone, and the person is accidentally or maliciously pressing the delete button and sending your photos to the Trash, or your cat is walking across your keyboard, they cannot empty the Recently Deleted without knowing your password.

You can disable this security feature, if you want in the Photos Settings. At the bottom of the Photos > Settings > General tab is an option to disable the password protection for the Hidden Photos and the Recently Deleted photos.

I have the same problem and Apple seems perplexed on it. My photo library will not produce the pop up to put in my password. So i can not delete it. Only workaround is to create a NEW user, open photo library there, and it works. It's ridiculous I have to do that. Otherwise, i can NOT uncheck password in settings. please fix!

I ran into the same problem. So far I have discovered that in order to view and delete these photos you need to go to your iCloud account online and go into the photos app. From there you can view the hidden photos, delete or move them and as well you can go into your recently deleted photos and do the same there. I went through the process and saw in real time things change in the photos app on my Mac. I am running Mac Studio w/ventura but I still can't disable the lock feature in the photos app under settings (like the previous poster suggested with screen shots) I will be contacting apple to discuss this and see if the confirm this to be a glitch or something that I have overlooked.

Give this a try: boot into Safe Mode according to How to use safe mode on your Mac and test to see if the problem persists. Reboot normally and test again.

NOTE 1: Safe Mode boot can take up to 3 - 5 minutes as it's doing the following;

• Verifies your startup disk and attempts to repair directory issues, if needed

• Loads only required kernel extensions (prevents 3rd party kernel/extensions from loading)

• Prevents Startup Items and Login Items from opening automatically

• Disables user-installed fonts

• Deletes font caches, kernel cache, and other system cache files

NOTE 2: if you have a wireless keyboard with rechargeable batteries connect it with its charging cable before booting into Safe Mode. This makes it act as a wired keyboard as will insure a successful boot into Safe Mode.

As a test launch Photos with the Option key held down and create a new, test library.  Import some photos and test to see if the same problem persists. Does it? This tells us if the problem is limited to your current library or is more wide spread. Then open your current library again and see if the password field shows.

Remember you have to click on the Deleted folder for it to appear.

Download and run Etrecheck.  Copy and paste the results into your reply. Etrecheck is a diagnostic tool that was developed by one of the most respected users here in the ASC and recommended by Apple Support  to provide a snapshot of the system and help identify the more obvious culprits that can adversely affect a Mac's performance.

Copy the report

and use the Additional Text button to paste the report in your reply.

Then we can evaluate the report to see if we can determine the cause of the problem.

Sorry old toad. Opened in safe mode, no change, even tried a new user, same thing. this is an intel Mac, I think it's a Mac OS bug. I'll try anything else tho if you think of something. maybe some line of code just needs to be reinserted, although I have reloaded Ventura. this is new with this os, the lock and password right? like I said it works fine on iPad and iPhone, just not Mac.

Just a tip: when you're replying to a post hit the reply button below that post so we know who you're replying to. When you reply to yourself we don't know what posting you're replying to.

Also we're not Apple here. We're end users like yourself who just volunteer to help others with problems. If you want to send a problem report to Apple about Photos use Feedback - Photos - Apple

Thanks.

Thank you old toad. you would think after playing with this stuff for awhile I would learn how all this works. just dont have that many problems. that's why I stay with apple. I have been playing with them since the late 80's when my kids were in grade school and we collected food labels to get an apple II for the school. ha ha.
