keyboard light not working on MacBook Air (2018)

hi,

my keyboard lightning isn't working. if I press f5 or f6 nothing happens (not even the keyboard light icon crossed out) and if I go to settings to keyboard the options "adjust keyboard brightness in low light" and "turn keyboard backlight off after inactivity" aren't even there. I don't know what to do and it surely is there (why else would I have f5 and f6 buttons)

thanks in advance,

Hello lukasvde,

Thanks for asking the Apple Support Communities about your backlighting.

Actually, it may not be the F5 or F6 keys. According to this: Turn your Mac keyboard’s backlighting on or off - Apple Support

  • "On the keyboard, press the increase brightness key  or the decrease brightness key . To turn backlighting off, keep pressing the decrease brightness key."

On our device, those keys are F1 and F2.

Also, make sure the System Settings > Keyboard > Keyboard Shortcuts > Function Keys slider is off:

"Use F1, F2, etc. keys as standard function keys”

To ensure they function normally. Thanks.
