I have an iPhone 12 updated to iOS 16. The background and wallpaper constantly changes itself to Black, automatically. I have to power down my phone in order to recover my Lock Screen Photo as well as the home screen background (or wallpaper). Is this a setting I have set incorrectly or is there a fix to stop this?

The only way I was able to stop this from happening was by switching to only a single background. I originally had one background photo for my locked screen and a separate background photo for my regular wallpaper as seen on the background of my home screen. When I changed these to the same photo, the blackouts stopped. I never had this problem before updating to ISO 16. I grew weary of fighting it, even with upgrades, so I just use the single photo.
Any chance you’re still not having problems with only one photo for both lock and wallpaper? I’ve had the same photo on both and it will either randomly change to a solid black wallpaper OR it decides to black out roughly the top 3rd of the wallpaper photo… just wondering because it’s driving me crazy…

whoever signed this calamity off as acceptable should be fired, and everyone in the team.
I’ve only stuck with Apple because the alternatives were so bad but you never hear complaints like this from Android users.
No more iPhones for me, this is the last straw.
I had to rest my iPhone 11 at the Apple Store and it’s really messed with everything. Including the issue you are all having. Goes to black or it goes to those awful graphics Apple decided to use on all their products which I hate. Can’t stand looking at them. I want pictures of my choosing on my iPhone. In my Mac I want either my pics at startup or those wonderful picture of California names for each iOS.

Same issue with an iphone XS max, since the update I will regularly lose my background images to a black screen. Please stop adding new features until the ones you have actually work properly. Backgrounds disappearing is an embarrassing display by APPLE.

Exactly the same here. I’ve rebooted multiple times. Occasionally it comes back; but then reverts to black. Changing wallpaper has not resolved it.
iPhone 14pro and just happened to me so frustrating and upsetting I don’t have that image anymore and it will be hard to find it again. Wtf apple
Even more annoyed I added a new photo and it l forever me to replace my background image as well WTFWTFYFWTYEUEUE so annoying !!

I’ve just had this happen to me. Re-set the photo, and now it’s completely blurred. I don’t have focus set up and do want to. Why does this affect wallpaper image?!?

Hey Trish, for me it doesn’t matter which group of pics I set as background… almost every time I lock the phone it comes up with a blank black background the next time. This is a new iPhone.
This is crazy. My 12pro has been reverting to a black lock screen since updating last November. And still doing it after another update. Please, Apple, get this sorted.
