I have an iPhone 12 updated to iOS 16. The background and wallpaper constantly changes itself to Black, automatically. I have to power down my phone in order to recover my Lock Screen Photo as well as the home screen background (or wallpaper). Is this a setting I have set incorrectly or is there a fix to stop this?

Thank you for posting in Apple Support Communities! This doesn't sound like expected behavior. Does this happen with any wallpaper that is set for your Lock Screen or a specific one? Does this happen at a specific time of day? Is it possible that a Focus is being enabled?

Also, the latest iOS is currently iOS 16.1.1. We'd recommend updating and then confirming this continues to occur.

I have same issue. I only have one background picture. Started randomly yesterday on my iPhone 14 pro. I didn’t change or upgrade anything when it randomly switched to black background
Having the same problem with my iPhone 13.
Spontaneously began happening last night — first time the phone shut down after last update.
Followed your advice. It changes nothing.
I have a iPhone pro 13 and I’m having the same issue. It’s been since I’ve updated my phone around the beginning of November. SUPER ANNOYING! How is there not a fix for this yet?

Exactly the same here. I’ve rebooted multiple times. Occasionally it comes back; but then reverts to black. Changing wallpaper has not resolved it.
iPhone 14pro and just happened to me so frustrating and upsetting I don’t have that image anymore and it will be hard to find it again. Wtf apple
Even more annoyed I added a new photo and it l forever me to replace my background image as well WTFWTFYFWTYEUEUE so annoying !!

I’ve just had this happen to me. Re-set the photo, and now it’s completely blurred. I don’t have focus set up and do want to. Why does this affect wallpaper image?!?

Hey Trish, for me it doesn’t matter which group of pics I set as background… almost every time I lock the phone it comes up with a blank black background the next time. This is a new iPhone.
This is crazy. My 12pro has been reverting to a black lock screen since updating last November. And still doing it after another update. Please, Apple, get this sorted.
Try settings - display and brightness- options - custom - and set the time when to be light and dark - you’re welcome!
