Handwriting input for Chinese not "inputting"

I don't know what happened but for some reason the character I select won't actually show up on what I'm writing on. I'm able to turn on the handwriting feature, write with my trackpad, and see the character I want. It is just that when I select that character like I normally would, it doesn't go anywhere.

I've tried exiting, refreshing, etc. multiple times but nothing works : /

I really want to know what is wrong here.
