Changing the startup screen in Ventura

In previous versions of MacOS (Until Monterey) I was able to change the initial boot screen background and subsequently the login screen even after boot to a custom graphic. I gave up trying to change it in MacOS 12 but now want to do that again in MacOS 13. Let's be honest the graphics that Apple has been using lately are just obnoxious and not real corporate friendly.

Any assistance would be most welcome.

you can only make it match your user account's wallpaper. you cannot set it as a separate image.

if you are the sole user (not even a guest account) AND file vault is turned off you can go to System Settings, in the Lock Screen tab,  and set "Login window shows" to "List of users". then your login screen matches your desktop background.

if you are using file vault or have multiple users, the above will not work.  if that's your situation, you will need to wait for apple to address this. it may be worth your time to send feedback directly to apple. Feedback - macOS - Apple

There used tube a way that you could go into safe mode and make the necessary change to the security, make the change and then set it back. Problem I am having is finding how I did that in the past. You had to work some terminal commands but it worked flawless.

If anyone knows them or finds them please post here.

I think this goes back to 10.14 that it had to be done. I know my old Mac Mini that maxed out at 10.15.7 I did it to.

Oops restarted it and the ugly orange startup came back up. I'm the admin and only user. I did have to change the name because I got this new computer and the install from back up was of a different user name(still me) from my work computer.

Does that count as a different user? In the User list there is only one user. Hope this all makes sense!

This is not a big deal for a home computer but it would be nice to be able to customize it.

Yeah they messed something up. There used to be a file in this case it would be called something like Ventura.heic that you would copy a new graphic with the same name to that location and bingo. Didn’t matter if file vault was enabled or if there were multiple users defined. When the OS boots it would load the files from the non user specific part of the file system

Hi it is januar 2023 and I have the same problem on my new Studio. However I also have 3 other mac's running Venetura 13.1 and they all have same settings (as far as I can see)... and they start up using my chosen desktop background for my log on procedure.

So how come??

I have sent a request to Apple via the link you supplied.

Lets see how it goes... it is a bit veird ;-)

I wasn't a fan of the Monterey colours because of association. How badly my transition was from Mojave, and all the problems and mis-steps due to the T chip in my 2018 MBP. Sticking to Mojave on my MBP for now.

Ventura start screen feels like a fresh start on my Mac Studio.

However I want a designer looking one- custom. It's a pc, a Personal computer, let us custom it Apple! XD

We can only hope the next Os will solve this. Not a deal breaker.

I'm more ****** off there's no good solutions to widgets yet. It's all over the place. I would love to have dictionary/thesaurus, currency exchange, unit converter and calculator all accessed from a hotcorner.

f you guys have a solution, I would be very grateful. Otherwise my intel MBP is going to die at mojave.
