Change Apple Mail link default to plain link

!! Wow. You just solved the whole issue, Ernst Mulder. That simple checkbox works. and gets rid of the automatic Preview link, and leaves pasted links as plain links. Was not expecting this! Many thanks 👍

Dear god I hate "Link Previews"

I paste in tons of in-line links in emails every day and manually switching them each to plain links is driving me bonkers. Please no more!

I am glad there is a solution in Sonoma, but it would be nice for a point release for Ventura to also include this fix. I am not yet ready (or able to by work policy) to upgrade to the latest OS.

That’s not a URL. That is an HREF anchor tag wrapping the actual URL.

I HATE the preview links and want all my links to be plain simple links (like it has been ever since I got my first Mac years ago). I should not have to manually convert each link as it's pasted, and the revert back to plain link doesn't even work for all URLs! (Typical of Apple....) I swear, each and every "engineer" at Apple needs a sign hung at their desk, "If it isn't broken, DON'T FIX IT". Ventura is worse than Monterey, Monterey was worse than Mojave, Mojave was worse than High Sierra, High Sierra was worse than etc etc. Not a good trend, and makes me consider going back to *gasp* a Windoze PC. I sure do miss the Snow Leopard or Mountain Lion days when things just worked properly the way they should. These new "features" (I call them BUGS) should be added as options and not shoved onto the users.

Wow! I've been using Cmd + Option + Shift + V for years to strip out formatting when pasting. For URLs it is now broken! It works only if used after inserting a carriage return or a space. That's not just a change, it's a bug.

Great to find a thread of like minded people. I've had consistent issues with this new automatic styling of pasted URLs. Many people who receive these emails are not able to use the link or say it doesn't work right if the URL is not pasted as a plain link.

Hope Apple will provide a way to change this default configuration.

You can press the triangle button and change to plain link.

Or, you could format your email as plain text.

I found out if you are posting multiple links in the same message, it continues to follow the selected format of the first one. That's probably not a common use case, though.

Same here - I need the link just to be plain text without me having to click again to make them so.

I have some clients who are saying I am sending them pictures and not links (yes, they are too daft to click o the pictures but that is another story).

So Apple needs to give us an option to chose how links are presented.

What bothers me is how Apple could make a big change to a feature that has been available for such a long time without considering what the public reaction would be. Surely someone questioned this decision during the beta testing.

From a business standpoint, this is RIDICULOUS — when I send a link to someone with a Windows machine using Outlook, they do not get a link — they get an IMAGE. Struggling to recall when I've seen something so unnecessary and short-sighted. Apple: FIX. THIS.

I shouldn't have to manually "Covert Link" a hundred times a day while working.

jnatoli - I registered a complaint too but just wanted make sure you are aware that hitting the space bar before copying the link renders it properly or it at least does for me. The added effort is annoying and I'm left with an unwanted space which can be deleted afterward but that's extra annoyance too.

It is interesting you think it is ridiculous that your recipients get an image. Why not use plain text. I certainly think it is ridiculous that people think I want to see their newest font, color scheme, or whatever emphasis. Just send the message. I could care less about all the rest and you can eliminate that and the link using plain text.

For me it does not – and I am not even one of the creative types using Macs so much!

Logo, fonts, colors, images, etc. In emails are a must for many.

That is why there should be a choice.
