How do I add a non-Apple device to 'my devices'?

Every time I want to rent a movie on apple TV (on my LG TV) or do one of many other things with Apple (even log in sometimes), I get a 'a confirmation code has been sent to your devices' message. That would be fine, except the only apple product I have access to is my work computer which is at my office. I've followed instructions for adding my android phone or my windows laptop to my devices in icloud but neither work. How can I get around this obstacle? Or do I just give up on Apple music, Apple TV+, etc? I could remove my work laptop from my devices but it's not clear what that would do

Windows, Windows 10

Hi lk_morgan,

We'd like to help you find the best solution for what you describe as two-factor authentication. Looking over Two-factor authentication for Apple ID - Apple Support it covers what you can do without having the trusted Mac device. You can choose to get this via a trusted phone number. If you sign in via Manage your Apple ID and you have your number with your Apple ID, then this doesn't sound expected, and you'll want to contact Apple Support

Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.

Thanks for the response. I live in an area with no cell service so can't use the trusted phone number as an option. I put a Google Voice number in as my trusted number but receive no messages from Apple on this, this is the case for a lot of verification messages from different services so I'm guessing it's to do with not being a 'real' phone number.
