Apple Watch needs an option to disable auto-dim

I just bought the new Apple Watch with the Silver Link Bracelet. I’ve been wanting the always on functionality since the 1st Apple Watch.

Sadly I discovered the Apple Watch has a new Auto-Dim feature you cannot turn off that makes your Watch Face dim when you look at it. This makes it hard to read even if you have your brightness turned up.

H1-B visas at Apple PLEASE 🙏 do not respond to this post giving a thank you buddy for reading this buddy linking an article about turning your brightness up like every other post here about this subject. They seriously need a reading comprehension test to get an H1-B. Sorry if that sounds harsh but every single post has someone who cannot understand peoples question about auto dimming and linking to something else that does not apply to their discussion.

Another issue is the always on is not really always on the white California watch face sadly turns black and this is another thing you can’t turn off. I don’t care if this makes the battery drain faster if it stays white. When I go out chances are I will have charged before hand.

Turning the always on feature still auto-dims the brightness. I’m with the op on this one. I’ve had my watch for one night. I cannot understand why Apple would dim the watch in low light conditions only to brighten it in bright conditions autonomously.

my Apple Watch Series 3 is brighter at night than my new Ultra.

sounds like a battery performance spec hack. And I’m again with the op on this one. I don’t care about battery life, let me set the brightness and stop auto-dimming. This makes my brand new watch useless at night.

Hey there williamhart446,

Thanks for reaching out to Apple Support Communities. We're happy to provide some assistance.

It sounds like you are already aware that you can adjust the brightness on your Watch by following the actions under the "Adjust brightness and text on Apple Watch" here: Adjust brightness, text size, sounds, and haptics on Apple Watch - Apple Support

If that is the case, and if you would like a setting or feature added in future updates, you can provide Apple feedback here: Product Feedback - Apple

The Always On feature will dim your screen to preserve battery life as mentioned here:

Use the Always On feature with your Apple Watch - Apple Support

"To preserve battery life, the display dims when your wrist is down, or by a quick gesture of covering the display with your hand. A wrist raise or tap on the screen brings everything back to full brightness and makes the watch screen active so that you can interact with your watch."

You can turn this feature off by following these steps:

"How to turn the Always On feature on or off

    1. Open the Settings app on your Apple Watch. To do this, press the Digital Crown to see the Home screen, then tap the Settings button .
    2. Tap Display & Brightness.
    3. Scroll down, then tap Always On.
    4. Tap Always On to turn on or turn off the feature."

We hope this helps.

Have a great day!
