Haptic on Magic Trackpad not working after Monterey install

Have had trackpad since 2018; has always worked. Using with a late 2017 desktop running Monterey. All was fine until this update. Now the trackpad goes in and out of having the haptic feedback work. Trackpad is fully charged. Turning trackpad off and on again fixes but only briefly. Trackpad loses some function w/o haptic aspect. Cannot select correctly, and sometimes clicks don't register. I do not know how to fix and this appears to be a problem for many going back to at least 2020. HELP.
