How to stop ALL Siri alerts on a Macbook Pro OS 10.13. Siri has NEVER been enabled.

I have never had Siri enabled on my Macbook Pro, OS10.13, but I often get a small window asking me if I want to use Siri. How can I stop this "alert"?

Thanks for checking that setting for us, MidAtlantian2014,

Our next recommendation would be confirming none of the Siri & Spotlight settings are enabled, which you can do following Siri preferences on Mac - Apple Support. This will ensure that there is no settings that might be causing it to pop up.

Then, see if the issue continues in safe mode. This will help us isolate the issue a bit further: How to use safe mode on your Mac - Apple Support.

Cheers.

Hello MidAtlantian2014,

That notification may be related to the Tips features. You can disable Tips notifications using the steps below:

  1. Click on the Apple logo in the upper left corner, and then click on System Preferences.
  2. Double click the Notifications icon.
  3. Select the Tips entry, and then choose None for the app alert style on the right.

You can also find those steps in this resource: Receive or stop notifications on Mac - Apple Support

Just let us know if you continue to get those unexpected notifications after making that adjustment and we'll keep moving forward from there.

Hi Chuckbl. Thanks for the reply. I looked at the Notifications page, but could not find a "Tips" tab. Notifications seems to be application based, so I looked for, say, system preferenes, but there is not a corresponding application in the list. iTunes is a bit of a "catch-all" application, so I checked that too, but again, no "tips". Again, I am running High Sierra, OS 10.13. Could there be a Terminal command that would do it?

Thanks. I've turned off System Preferences in Spotlight settings. I don't want to turn off "Allow Spotlight suggestions in lookup," since I use that to start some of the apps I use, and since this only occurrs every week or so, I do not want to run in Safe mode. But perhaps turning off system preferences in Spotlight will do it!

In any case, thanks for your suggestions.
