iOS 16 – Mail app – notifications for folders other than the Inbox – missing functionality in iOS 16

Hi Everyone

This question relates to iOS 16 and the Mail app.

You can no longer adjust notifications for emails which go directly to folders other than the Inbox. For example, emails which go directly into the Junk folder.

In previous iOS versions, you could adjust the notification behaviour under Favourite Mailboxes in the notifications settings for Mail.

Please could someone confirm whether this is indeed the case, or point me in the right direction if I am mistaken?

Thanks!

In iOS, you can change your notification settings by using the following steps:

Set email notifications on iPhone -- This is how it’s done in iOS 16:

Receive notifications about replies to an email or thread
You can set up mail notifications that let you know when you receive emails in favorite mailboxes or from your VIPs.
• When reading an email: Tap the Reply button, then tap Notify Me.
• When writing an email: Tap the Subject field, tap the Notify Me button in the Subject field, then tap Notify Me.
To change how notifications appear, go to Settings  > Mail > Notifications, then turn on Allow Notifications.

Hope this helps!

Have a great day.

Hello mct123,

Are you referring to incoming mail notifications? If so, per Manage notifications from Mail on Mac - Apple Support

Change new message notifications

  1. In the Mail app  on your Mac, choose Mail > Settings, then click General.
  2. Do any of the following:
    • Change new message sound: Click the “New message sound” pop-up menu, then choose a sound.
    • Change the mailbox for new message notifications: Click the “New message notifications” pop-up menu, then choose a mailbox.

So this would indicate only one mailbox - such as Inbox - can be chosen to alert you.

Cheers!
