Remote app out of sync

I have an MBP, and a Mac Mini. I use the Mac Mini as my music server. It does nothing else than play music. I use the Remote app on my iPhone/iPad to control what's playing. Everything is on current versions (Ipad/iOS 16, Ventura).

The problem is that when I look at playlists on the Remote app, it lists different numbers of songs than are on the playlist on the respective computer. For example.

Playlist 1 shows 103 songs on the Mac Mini and on the MBP, so they are in sync. But the Remote app reports "0" songs. I can't play anything from Remote.

Playlist 2 shows 963 on the Mac Mini and on the MBP, so they are again in sync. But the Remote app shows 584 songs.

Music was shared via Home Sharing. I have deleted the Remote app and then reinstalled it, no change. I turned off Home Sharing and paired directly to each computer.

Now Playlists 1 shows 51 when connected to the MBP, but still shows 0 when connected to the Mac Mini. The real number of songs is 103.

Playlists 2 shows 584 connected to the MBP and 117 when connected to the Mac Mini. The real number of songs on both computers is 963.

Why the discrepancies? Why doesn't the Remote app show exactly what is on the respective remote computer? What is so hard about the remote app actually showing what is on the remote computer?
