Could I have malware from a gif?

So there was a gif on teams and I have the teams app. And a friend of mine sends a gif. So I just watched it and later that day he sent that the gif had malware. I only watched the gif. And I screen recorded it but nothing much more. So could I have malware from that gif?

Can you get malware from a gif? Yes & no.

Did it infect your iPhone? No.

The gif would need code written specifically for an iPhone and even if it did (which it doesn't) the way the iOS sandboxes the memory, the malware can't go anywhere outside of that file. Your phone is safe.
