Ventura's Spotlight doesn't work the same

I used to be able to find files just by searching the .identifier for an application. Files ending in .psd, .pdf, etc. The ones I cannot find specifically now are the ones ending in .afdesign (Affinity Design).

Any idea as to the problem or if Spotlight doesn't work the same anymore?

Spotlight in Ventura (13.4) no longer identifies local files. It's good to be able to search the entire internet from Spotlight but I'd rather be able to launch local files as a priority. I get results for images, PDFs (I'm pretty sure those are files), folders, Safari, etc. However, I cannot see local files which is what I've always had and would prefer. I now have to search for the application e.g. Numbers then find the file from there. What a nonsense! I've tried forcing a reindexing. I see we can no longer drag categories to prioritise them. Anyone else experienced this and have any suggestions? Mark McShane

spotlight When I search I document with spotlight and klick on it - to open it - in most cases it wont simply open. Instead I have to move it to the desktop or whatever and open it from there. Is that the way spotlight is supposed to work? I simply don´t get it?! Now the fun part: When I move the file to the place where I normally save it, the finder says, there is already a file with the same name! So the file was already on my machine (not in the cloud) but I couldn´t open it from spotlight anyway! So the question is: What the heck is spotlight really good for - or is it simply crap software? Also: A function to open the folder where the file resides from Spotlight would be greatly appreciated! I dont understand how apple pushes new features like spotlight with huge marketing power and then leaves them crippled dying on the road.

Spotlight must re-index Occasionally when you delete files from external drive, spotlight does not update to reflect the changes.. eg.. I did a spotlight search today for all files related to *.xml, but when they show up in search, right click and "open containing folder", the file in the directory is not there.. Once I reindexed drive (deleting hidden .spotlight folder), it was ok.. Why is this constantly needed ? Spotlight should be updating to reflect changes.. "on-the-fly"

Use the following Spotlight search:

name:.afdesign

This works for me on Ventura 13.0.1., and the same approach used on previous releases of macOS.

I don't know the exact name of the file. I used to be able to type in .afdesign and all the files with that ending would appear. Even using one word that I know is the file name doesn't help.
