Apply tv lost remote and new wifi

HI

I have a second gen Apple TV device which i’ve not used for a while but would like to start using again.

Two challenges to overcome :

  • I lost the remote
  • I have changed WI-FI / router since last use of the TV device

Progress so far :

  • Connected the TV device to Ethernet
  • When connected to Ethernet was able to use both my Apple Watch and my iPhone as a remote. Great
  • I would like to have the tv device connected to Wi-Fi not Ethernet. And here my problem starts
  • Specifically when connected to the Ethernet cable, the only setting in the network menu is related to the Ethernet.
  • when i remove the Ethernet cable the use of either the Apply Watch or my iPhone as a remote stops.
  • Therefore, i can’t navigate any menus to see if the network menu allow me to connect to a Wi-Fi network.

Any ideas most welcome :)

Kind regards

Paul

You will need a physical remote to change the network settings. The software remote uses the home network for communication, which connection is lost as soon as you disconnect the network cable.

Are you referring to the Apple TV (2nd generation) from 2010, or are you referring to the Apple TV 4K (2nd generation) from 2021?
