icloud drive on mac does not sync

Hello everybody

since some days, maybe after I've updated my MacMini M1 to Ventura OS, I've come across some issues about iCloud Drive sync.

Firstly it was stacked with new file uploading, then I got out and got back in iCloud Drive and things looked good. After a while I realized, because a little icon with a "!" was displayed next to iCloud Drive label on the left bar of Finder window, that it has not been erasing from the cloud what I had deleted in Finder (of course the folder is one of those that are synced with iCloud Drive). Now it does not upload new files again.

I've tried to upload, change folders and erase file in Finder and checked what happen on icloud.com and viceversa. From icloud.com is all ok, from Finder now is ko. By the way, iCloud Drive documents are also downloaded on macmini internal hdd, I don't know if it may have some side effects, of course it shouldn't.

I've looked for some logs, but I've found none.

What the **** is going on? Is there a bug in Ventura OS.

Hello McViga,

It sounds as though iCloud Drive is set up on your Mac mini but files aren't deleting from iCloud when being deleted on your Mac. Since having this issue have you restarted your Mac? If not, restarting is a great step that can help resolve many issues. To restart your Mac, follow the steps listed below.

  1. Click the Apple logo towards the top-left.
  2. Then click Restart in the menu.

Shut down or restart your Mac

Let us know how that goes!

Hey there McViga,

We hope those previous steps have resolved the issue, but if the issue returns, you can try the two steps below. Those steps can help either resolve this issue or isolate it further.

  1. Start your Mac mini in safe mode and test to see if iCloud Drive still has the same issue. Safe mode only allows certain software to load and does a basic check of your startup disk, which as previously mentioned may help.
  2. Create a temporary new administrator user and test again. This step shows if the issue is happening with any user on your Mac mini or your specific user.

If needed, the steps below show how to get into safe mode:

"Apple silicon

  1. Shut down your Mac.
  2. Turn on your Mac and continue to press and hold the power button until you see the startup options window.
  3. Select your startup disk, then press and hold the Shift key while clicking “Continue in Safe Mode.”
  4. Log in to your Mac. You might be asked to log in again."

Those steps are from this article: How to use safe mode on your Mac - Apple Support

If needed, the steps below show how to create a new user:

"Add a user

  1. On your Mac, choose Apple menu  > System Settings, then click Users & Groups  in the sidebar. (You may need to scroll down.)
  2. Click the Add Account button below the list of users on the right (you may be asked to enter your password.)
  3. Click the New Account pop-up menu, then choose a type of user.
    • Administrator: An administrator can add and manage other users, install apps, and change settings. The new user you create when you first set up your Mac is an administrator. Your Mac can have multiple administrators. You can create new ones, and convert standard users to administrators. Don’t set up automatic login for an administrator. If you do, someone could simply restart your Mac and gain access with administrator privileges. To keep your Mac secure, don’t share administrator names and passwords.
    • Standard: Standard users are set up by an administrator. Standard users can install apps and change their own settings, but can’t add other users or change other users’ settings.
    • Sharing Only: Sharing-only users can access shared files remotely, but can’t log in to the computer or change settings. To give the user permission to access your shared files or screen, you may need to change options in File Sharing, Screen Sharing, or Remote Management settings. See Set up file sharing and Share the screen of another Mac.
  1. For more information about the options for each type of user, click the Help button in the lower-left corner of the dialog.
  2. Enter a full name for the new user. An account name is generated automatically. To use a different account name, enter it now—you can’t change it later.
  3. Enter a password for the user, then enter it again to verify. Enter a password hint to help the user remember their password.
  4. Click Create User."

Take care.

Hello claire504

unfortunately the problem has came back again. Some files are not being uploaded from my mac to the icloud. I tried with safe mode and new user account, but the issue remains. Moreover I don't know what are the stuck files, I only know that they are 6, because of the icons beside iCloud Drive in Finder lateral bar.

Comparing the "recent files" folder on my mac and the one on icloud drive internet site, I can only detect 2 of them, so I can manually fix them, but of course this is not a solution.
