Charging issues with new IOS 16.1.1

Just updated to 16.1.1 IOS using an XS. My battery health (original battery) is 84%. All was fine with the earlier IOS and charging a few days ago. But since the upgrade charging is super slow or not charging at times. It dropped from 84% to 38% the night I left it on the charger overnite so I was pretty unhappy to discover that! I am in Europe. I thought maybe it was the adapter (well thought of bought in the USA) interface causing issues. So yesterday I went and bought a new Euro 12W block for my iPhone to try. It is not charging the phone any faster than the original Apple lightening to USB cable to adapter to socket approach. But it is more reliable as occassionally the charging light would simply go out using the adapter. Even once this morn with the new APPLE charging block. However, now, four hours later, for the first time today the phone battery says it is at 91% charge using the Apple Charging Block. I did read things have to catch up after an IOS upgrade and can take a couple of days. Is that nonsense or perhaps happening? I did discover I cannot force start my phone, which I tried to do 4 or 5 times this morning. It never shuts off after tapping the volume up/volume down and then holding the right button to wait for the Apple log. I did turn off System Haptics. I did turn off the Optimize Battery Feature. I did turn off Background Apps Refresh and deleted some apps I no longer use. And I did buy a power block in case I'm out and my battery runs low quickly! Any other suggestions on this issue? I know I'm not the only one! Thank you.

YAY. Good morning. While so frustrating for several days process of elimination is a viable one. It was my Apple OEM cable that was faulty. I've used an older Apple OEM cable I had brought along too for backups that I finally found, am using my US 10W Apple OEM charging block and approved adapter into the EU socket...and ALL IS WELL at 100% consistently! YAYYY!!

What a good thanksgiving gift.

Thank you again Community and to you particularly for trouble shooting with me as you did!

Take good care all.

Yes Alancito...all those settings are off. I did that immediately after uploading the new software.

If it is the power coming from the actual electric socket as everything else is getting ruled out how do I find that out? That's not something I know how to do. And what is the fix? I asked about an external "USB" small backup. Weirdly this issue is not affecting charging my Air nor my iWatch. From the same socket.

Thank you for so much help on a holiday! You are amazing! Now the phone is not staying charged with any of the choices for long.

Here is the list. I am at 71% and losing speed now.

I plugged into a new external 10K battery pack with the same lightening cable from the phone to USB into the battery pack. It stopped charging after about 5 minutes tho the battery pack has a full charge.

I plugged back into the wall socket using the USB Euro 12W block. I get about three minutes and the charge stops.

I plugged into my Air 2020. Within two minutes the charge stopped.

And I've tried my USA block which works for a bit and then the charge stops.

So maybe it is the cable after all??!

Aggh! I'm usually fairly tech savvy but I am feeling so overwhelmed now.

Thoughts? But I'm turning the phone off so I've got some juice to bring it to a shop tomorrow for more diagnosis.

I've had sooooo many tek issues since getting here just not fair to have yet another one I'm throwing money at to try to fix! The cable is the only thing I haven't tried a replacement for.

Thank you for confirming and spending your Thanksgiving day helping me. I have so much to be thankful for! After all this I am thinking it is the cable too. It is an OEM Apple cable but maybe something happened to it. For "fun" just tried it one more time with my fully charged battery pack and it starts for a couple of minutes and then the moment the lights go off on my charger the charge ends. I did get this battery to 100% the other day using this same cable and the new EU Apple 12W battery pack.

But that was once and haven't repeated that.

Could this new battery pack be turning itself off for some reason? Oh MY!

Feeling kinda crazy. Tomorrow I'll be bringing all this stuff, which I bought at one electronics store because they allow returns, and hope the good tech I've been speaking with is there to help. He has an XS Plus so he's an Apple fan. And speaks good English.

Thanks so much and enjoy the rest of your holiday.

Hi run369,

It may be an issue with your MagSafe charger. I have a MagSafe charger and bought an aftermarket holder/stand (from Amazon, Stouchi to be exact) but discovered there’s a design flaw. While it worked for 6 months, my MagSafe charger would charge for a few minutes and then shut off. The holder/stand I bought puts (in my opinion) a good amount of stress since it creates a loop on the cable under the holder. I suspect it’s now making intermittent contact between cable to charger interface. I’ve since gone back to a direct plug in cable/charger set up and my iPhone charges fine with no issues. Do you have a MagSafe holder/stand that could be the culprit?
