WebKit Experimental settings re-set

I have an iPad Air on IOS 12.5.6. After having problems with familiar websites loading on Safari, I searched the web for answers. Based on answers found on the web, I experimented with settings in the “WebKit Experimental Settings” before taking a screenshot of the existing default settings. A tired, old senior broad trying to figure out what the heck was the problem. Now web pages that would load, won’t. On the iPad Air with 12.5.6, there is not the option of “Reset to default” on the “Experimental Settings” in my settings. There are the options in the “General” category, in the “Reset” tab, for “reset” options, but I don’t know if any of those apply to the “Experimental Settings”. Help?

Chrystal, in that case it's likely that iPad's version of Safari simply isn't going to work with websites that demand later browsers. Because why not, the cable companies all have the latest equipment so why shouldn't you 🙄

Anyway all hope is not lost. See if you can get another browser from the App Store. I recommend Brave (search for that name on the App Store app), and if it isn't available for your iOS version perhaps Firefox will work. Search for it too.

Try those two, in that order. That way you can keep using your iPad for a while longer.

I'd fix your fridge if I could. Major appliances often fail because a 40¢ part needs to be replaced except nobody wants to do that kind of work any more. iPads aren't as simple 😕

Resetting Safari's Advanced > Experimental Features to defaults is definitely separate from any other reset.

If you're having trouble definitely try resetting them to defaults, then look into other possibilities such as removing all Website Data. It is also under Advanced. At the bottom, tap Remove All Website Data.

I'd do that before looking into Experimental Webkit Features.

Thanks for your input, John, but I have tried “removing Website Data”, followed by shutting down. I have shut down several times. That did not resolve the issue. With iOS 12.5.6, what Reset do I choose that would return the Experimental Features to the Default setting? I doubt even that would resolve all the problems that Safari had with loading website content, but maybe those that were loading but are no longer.

Thanks for your response, Anne. Your bringing up the subject of iPad generation caused me to look into that. I was thinking, based on when I purchased my iPad Air, that mine was at least a 3rd generation. Wrong. Based on the Model designation, seems that it is a 1st generation and that Apple is no longer providing updates or support for this model. Great. Now I not only have to replace my refrigerator, but if I cannot find resolution to the problems with content loading, I will need to buy a new device. When I went to pay my cable/internet bill today from the email link, Safari would not load the page. These issues render my iPad useless. 😥
