So I changed my password on my xfinity/comcast account and changed the password in mail on my ipad and now mail just grinds trying to connect. The password is correct I used it to login to the web interface for xfinity to see my mail.
Mail claims there's no password. I checked, it's there.

Follow the steps under "Remove your email account and set it up again" here: If you can’t send or receive emails on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support.
If after setting up the email account again the emails are still not syncing, you may want to reach out to the Email Service Provider and ensure that there are no specific settings on your account that needs to be adjusted.

So how I got it to work was that I had to type in the password manually, even though when I cut and pasted it in from a text document it appeared as it normally does in the password field of the account set up. Bizarre.
