Why can't I turn find my iphone "on" for a lost/stolen iphone on my apple account without access to the physical device? if I had access to it I wouldn't be needing the "find my iphone" feature.

I've recently had my iphone 13 pro stolen and immediately turned off so I cant track it through find my iphone. a couple of days later the thief contacted me through a fake number sending me a link to a fishing site (designed exactly like the find my iphone site) and an alert from apple support stating my device is now online, a friend trying to help me find my phone didn't realize the site was fake and entered my apple id/ password into the fishing site, resulting in the thief being able to take my stolen device out of find my iphone through the site. (my phone is locked with a passcode so he couldn't do it from the phone but yes ... from the find my iphone site)

I immediately changed my password but I can't stress enough the kind of regret, stress and emotional trauma this caused my friend because we noticed that THERE IS NO WAY to undo that and turn the feature back on from the "find my iphone" app/site! the only way to turn find my iphone ON for a device is from the device itself and I assure you the thief won't be doing me that favor! and I still can't find any way to turn find my iphone back on from anywhere except the STOLEN device.

I was wondering what thought process went into the design of this feature where you can turn a "find my iphone" OFF remotely but you need the device in your hands to turn it back ON? if anything I should be able to turn this feature on when I don't have access to my phone! I'm trying to find it!

I understand mistakes were made on my part with giving away my login information but I'm posting this so that maybe apple would take notice of this loophole and make this feature available where you can turn find my iphone back on for a stolen device.

Apple doesn’t routinely monitor the discussions. These are mostly user to user discussions.

If you want to, you can send Apple feedback. They won't answer, but at least will know there is a problem or a suggestion for change. If enough people send feedback, it may get the problem/suggested change solved sooner. Pick the closest topic you can find.
