Contacts on my phone are stuck in Lists mode with no way out. Never experienced this prior to 16.1.1 update. Anyone else seen this. I currently have no ability to reach my contacts.

I had this problem as well, and I just realized that all I needed to do is select “All iCloud”.
I didn’t realize all of my contacts belong to a default list. And apparently, I’m not the only one!
Now that I have this understanding, the UI makes sense.
I am running 16.1.2.
Tried all suggested and still not working. How did this bug get through Apple UX people?!
I can’t merge my contact lists
This did not help me. Hundreds of all my contacts have just disappeared!!

I deleted and then restored Contacts. Twice. I'm still stuck in Lists view.
