Apple Genuine MagSafe Charger creates ring (looks melted, but it's not) on case?

Hello there,

I have an odd situation, when I charge my phone on my genuine apple magsafe charger, it adds this odd white ring on my black phone case. It looks melted, but it's not, I can wipe it off by licking my thumb. But it only happens with this charger. It doesn't happen with my Belkin Magsafe 3 in 1 charger.

Any ideas why it's doing this? The magsafe is warm when I charge it, but not super hot.

I've never had a magsafe but this doesn't seem normal?

I have an off brand wallet that snaps to my phone but that never leaves a ring.

Thanks,

Lorne

Greetings Lorne17,

What you are seeing on your iPhone case is not unexpected, and is nothing to be concerned about. You can learn more here:

How to use your MagSafe Charger with iPhone 14, iPhone 13, and iPhone 12 models - Apple Support

"

  • As with other wireless chargers, your iPhone or MagSafe Charger might get slightly warmer while your iPhone charges. To extend the lifespan of your battery, if the battery gets too warm, software might limit charging above 80 percent.
  • If you keep your iPhone in a leather case while charging with your MagSafe Charger, the case might show circular imprints from compression of the leather. This is normal, but if you’re concerned about this, we suggest using a non-leather case."

Take care.
