My documents keeps freezing and won't transfer

I just bought my first Mac and I'm trying to move my documents from my pc over to my new Mac. I keeps freezing at the same number of files transferred and will not do anything from that point on. Ive tried wifi and also a usb/type c transfer cable and cannot get it to work. What else can I do?

Hello RemyVols,

Thank you for posting to the Apple Support Communities.

It sounds like the Migration Assistant tool will stop responding at the same spot each time you try to transfer your files.

In a situation like this, please start by making sure your Mac and Windows PC have the latest software updates installed. We’d suggest restarting your computers before attempting a new transfer.

You may also consider using an external storage device to copy your files from Windows to macOS: Connect and use other storage devices with Mac.

You can also use the iCloud Drive to upload files from your PC to access them from your Mac and other devices: Upload and download files from iCloud Drive on iCloud.com.

If you continue to notice a an issue with the transfer, please contact Apple Support directly for more help.

We hope that this helps you.

Have a great day!
