FaceTime for single person only from iMessage not working

FaceTime for single person only from iMessage not working

Both users have iPhones (13mini and 11pro)
Both users are on the latest update 16.1.1
Both users are in contacts
Both users are not blocking each other
Both users are not in disturb mode (or any other mode)
Both users tried to log out / in from icloud

User 1 can call User 2 directly from FaceTime app AND FaceTime from iMessage app - no problems

User 2 can call user 1 directly from FaceTime app BUT NOT FaceTime from iMessage app - problem

After pressing option of Voice Call or Videocall from iMessage app - it drops immediately (without any dial) showing "FaceTime failed"

I had this problem with one of my family members and after year or two it just disappeared.

After recent update I have the same type of issue with new family member.

What is the problem/solution?

Contacted senior support. The problem was in settings of iMessage and FaceTime. Receive and send message/call was setup differently (one had only email, the other one had email and phone number).

Fixed. Thanks Apple!

You don’t mention if both of you or one or neither is doing this over Wi-Fi or thru cellular.

When I have seen the “FaceTime failed” message, it was due to remote person; the one being called, not being on Wi-Fi, and NOT having cellular option on for cellular.

Im thinking maybe the person who sees the failed message is doesn’t have the ability to use cellular with FaceTime, check settings for FaceTime too.

I’m thinking they are gonna tell you to delete and reinstall imesg, but don’t do that unless they tell you to do it, and then have them walk you thru the steps till it works, very important.

Wifi to cell, cell to wifi, wifi to wifi, cell to cell. Same problem.

Please keep in mind that i can connect with the user if i open facetime app.

it only fails if i want to call from imessage
