Macbook Ventura HP Officejet Pro 8600 Scanner Image Capture printer not shown.

I have a MacBook Pro on Ventura and a home network with an HP printer connected. I have no problem printing to it. When I click on Image Capture, it says no camera or scanner selected, and nothing shows up under Devices or Shared. If I click on Settings / Printers & Scanners, the Officejet Pro 8600 shows up as expected as default printer. Why does it not show up in Image Capture? The reason it matters is that I'm looking for scanning software alternatives to HP Smart, which has a glitch with Ventura that requires you to log in to your HP account over the Internet every single time you want to scan something. A lot of the scanning software apps say they work on a Mac through Image Capture, but my Image Capture doesn't work.

If it is listed as AirPrint printer, delete the existing printer in

> System Settings> Printers & Scanners, and add it again, select AirPrint.

HP says to use HP Easy Start 2.13.0.220124. release January 27, 2022. The install program seems to see my printer because it shows a picture of it. But then upon following the steps, the install program says no, use something else called HP Smart. I follow the link for that, but instead of downloading it opens the program because I already have HP Smart. That's what I was trying to use to scan in the first place, that sent into the loop of continuously re-logging in to HP. This latest should probably be in an HP forum, not here. Anyway . . .

thanks. Trying the scan from the printer, I click scan / computer, and its says no computer found. it directs me to look at some setting in some HP Utilities. The HP software I have installed is the one that HP says to install when I go to their website and try to update firmware and / or driver. I download their file and click it and get a message that it has no update for my system.

Didn't try the cable yet. The printer is across the room. I'd probably buy a new printer before giving up on wireless connection permanently.
