Here's on way:

Try double clicking the mp3 file.

It will likely open in the QuickTime player (or whatever is set as default player)

so you can press the play-button.

If this doesn't work for you:

Click the blue QuickTime player app icon in the dock to open it:

In Quicktime ap:

Click File in the top menu, choose open file:

Now you can navigate to the mp3 file and open it from there.
