a brand new MacBook Pro 2021 running Monterey
This is where it hangs. Over and over.
There's only one wifi in the house and they're both on it.
(Please don't tell me to upgrade the system in the MacPro - that isn't necessary for this process and it's already starting to run slow as it is)

Any chance you have a Time Machine drive connected to the old Mac that you can move over to the new one?
Yes, but I don't want to do a full time-machine restoration onto the new macbook Pro. The HD on the Macbook Pro is a tiny fraction of the MacPro. I just need bookmarks and logins and minor functionary settings imported over.
Well, then you don't want to use Migration Assistant anyway, it's not that finely tuned.
