email glitch

Hi,

When I send an email on my ipad, most of the time, it no longer actually sends. Instead of a quiet whoosh and the email disappearing upward with a white screen as it gets sent, the email simply disappears upward with a brief Black screen, and is gone.

Here’s the odd thing: By trial and error, I’ve discovered one way to actually send:

  1. Save a draft of the email, go to draft file and send it from there.
  2. Most of the time, the first time I do this it will disappear again in the above manner.
  3. Go to draft file again, and send it from there a Second time, and it Always effectively sends, with the whoosh and brief white screen.

I ‘ve heard that I can’t delete and reinstall the email program because it is factory installed on the ipad from the factory. it is up to date on periodic software upgrades from

Apple. I use this account for business emails, and am afraid to mess things up further.

Can someone help with this? Thanks for taking the time to read this. IOS 15.3

Phil

Hello philinboulder,

The first step we would suggest that you take is to update your iPad's software as it is fairly out of date. This can help with a lot of unexpected behaviors. Follow the guidance in this article: Update your iPhone or iPad - Apple Support.

    1. "Back up your device using iCloud or your computer.
    2. Plug your device into power and connect to the internet with Wi-Fi.
    3. Go to Settings > General, then tap Software Update.
    4. If you see more than one software update option available, choose the one that you want to install.
    5. Tap Install Now. If you see Download and Install instead, tap it to download the update, enter your passcode, then tap Install Now. If you don't know your passcode, learn what to do."

If that does not resolve the issue, removing and re-adding the account may help. That can absolutely be done. Just follow this article: Add and remove email accounts on iPad - Apple Support.

"Add email accounts

The first time you open the Mail app on your iPad, you may be asked to set up an email account—just follow the onscreen instructions.

To add additional email accounts, do the following:

    1. Go to Settings  > Mail > Accounts > Add Account.
    2. Do one of the following:
      • Tap an email service—for example, iCloud or Microsoft Exchange—then enter your email account information.
      • Tap Other, tap Add Mail Account, then enter your email account information.

Log out of or remove email accounts

    1. Go to Settings  > Mail > Accounts.
    2. Tap the email account you want to remove, then do one of the following:
      • If you’re removing an iCloud email account: Tap iCloud, tap iCloud Mail, then turn off "Use on this iPad”.
  • If you’re removing another email account: Turn off Mail.
    • Note: To remove the email account from all apps on your iPad, tap Delete Account."

Let us know if we can help with anything else at all or if this doesn't settle your issue so we can look into this further with you. Thanks and have a fabulous day!

Hey philinboulder,

That's good to know! Let's delete the Mail app and reinstall to see if a fresh copy of the app helps to resolve this: Delete built-in Apple apps from the Home Screen on your iOS 14 or later or iPadOS device or Apple Watch - Apple Support

Delete a built-in app from your device

1. On your iOS or iPadOS device, touch and hold the app.
2. Tap Remove App from the shortcut menu.
3. Tap Delete App from the submenu.

If you have an Apple Watch, deleting an app from your iPhone also deletes that app from your Apple Watch.

Restore a built-in app that you deleted

1. On your iOS or iPadOS device, go to the App Store.
2. Search for the app. Make sure that you use the exact name of the app.
3. Tap the Redownload button .
4. Wait for the app to restore, then open it from your Home Screen.

If you have an Apple Watch, restoring an app to your iPhone also restores that app to your Apple Watch.

Let us know how it goes.

Take care!

HI

Thanks so much for taking the tie to reply to my issue, described above.

I have taken the two steps outlined:

1. Updated my software to current iteration

  1. Deleted my mail account, restarted my ipad, then added the email account back in.

I’m sorry to report that they have not impacted my issue, the only way I can consistently send an email is to save it as a draft before sending, and then send it from the draft file, and it will send on the first or the second attempt to send from the draft file.

Occasionally, an email willl send directly but most of the time it simply disappears upward and the screen goes black and it is not sent.

I would appreciate any other direction you may have, and thank you again for taking time with me.
